volunteer opportunities

Family Services, Inc., relies heavily on volunteers to allow us to offer a wide range of support services to the community. Volunteer workers help keep our costs down so that we are able to offer more support to those who need us most. Volunteers often tell us about the appreciation expressed by those they help.

We hold volunteer training sessions throughout the year. For more information about any of the volunteer opportunities listed below, call us at (336) 723-4338. You can apply online to become a volunteer by clicking on our Volunteer Application tab.

Routine Volunteer Opportunities

Reassurance
Volunteers make regularly scheduled calls to homebound adults in need of reassurance and support. Shifts are available in a variety of lengths and times.

Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Crisis Lines
Volunteers provide face-to-face and/or phone support to victims of sexual assault or domestic violence.

Safety Checks
These volunteers contact the partners of men who are in the Time-Out Abusers' Treatment Program. They assess the partner's safety and discuss changes that have been made since his/her partner started the Time Out Program.

Court Advocacy
Volunteers provide support, information and referrals to women in court who are victims of domestic violence.

Project or Office Assistance
Projects - we may ask volunteers to handle include landscaping and maintenance of our grounds, helping with events (such as Taste of the Town), or community health fairs. Office Assistance - means just that. These volunteers assist with general office work in our organization.

Taste of the Town
Family Services, Inc.'s annual fundraiser held on Kentucky Derby Day. This gala event features cuisine from local restaurants, Derby gaming, entertainment and an auction. Volunteers are needed November through May to assist in planning, organizing and at the actual event which is attended by over 1,000 guests.
